See: Is it possible to receive retirement without having paid social security?

Some people choose not to pay INSS, either due to lack of knowledge or even financial reasons. Hence the question: is it possible to receive a pension without contributing to social security? The answer is no.

Social Security is divided into three segments: Social Security, Social Assistance and Health. Social security is insurance in which the employee participates through monthly contributions. The objective is to guarantee income if the citizen is no longer able to work due to health problems, accidents or seniority. According to the National Social Security Institute (INSS), Brazil has more than 21.8 million pensioners.

Other benefits are covered by the agency, however, they are not considered retirement. This is the case of the Continuous Payment Benefit (BPC), which guarantees a minimum monthly wage to seniors over 65 years of age or people with disabilities of any age.

“In the case of a person with a disability, this condition must be capable of causing long-term physical, mental, intellectual or sensory impairments (with effects lasting at least 2 years), which make it impossible for them to participate fully and effectively. in society, on equal terms with other people.”

It is not necessary to have contributed to the INSS to be eligible for the BPC. The income per person in the family group is required to be equal to or less than 1/4 of the minimum wage.

How do I request the BPC benefit?

To be eligible for the benefit, the social worker must complete a family income assessment. This work is called social study.

To do this, it is necessary to request a visit from the social worker to CRAS – Social Worker Reference Center. Each city has at least one unit;

Remember that the family must be registered and updated in CadÚnico – Single Registry of Social Programs of the Federal Government before applying to the INSS unit.
