Proposal that puts an end to electronic radars was approved, check it out

For the deputies, the use of radars in their current form only contributes to revenue and does not serve as a means of educating traffic officials.

Radar is an electronic device that allows objects to be detected at long distances, despite darkness and bad weather. It is used to direct air and sea traffic and to detect and identify ships, planes and cars that exceed the permitted speed.

Electronic radars that are permanently installed on federal highways are normally used to check drivers' speed and issue fines to those who exceed the permitted limit. And a proposal approved by the Legislative Assembly (Alerj) last week could end the use of equipment on the streets.

Could this be the end of electronic speed cameras on the roads?

This change in traffic rules was approved by Deputy Dr. Serginho (PL) proposed by Bill 5848/2022. After approval by Alerj, it will be up to the state governor, Cláudio Castro (PL), to sanction or veto the future law, which will come into force in the state of RJ, depending on the opinion.

To justify the need for the project, Deputy Dr. Serginho says that the measure was created to combat the so-called fine industry, contributes to revenue collection and is not intended for traffic education. This house today does a lot of justice to drivers, explained Dr. Serginho.

According to the bill, speed control should only be based on Resolution 798/20 of the National Traffic Council (Contran). The rule stipulates that there must be horizontal and vertical road signs with information to drivers about speed control.

Furthermore, the PL requires that speed control on roads be carried out by mobile radar devices and supervised by a competent inspection agent or police department.
