Save fuel with Eco OBD2, does it work? Look

Famous plug in the electronic control unit connector, Eco OBD2 promises up to 15% of consumption reduction, see if it works.

Most fuel saving devices offered on the Internet have the same problem: that is, the technical explanation of how they work is always confusing, opaque or sometimes not even supported in the automotive field.

Eco OBD2 is different. In theory, it makes sense: the small 7 x 2 cm device plugs into the OBD2 port of cars (manufactured from 1996 onwards in the USA and from 2010 onwards in Brazil). It is capable of changing the engine management map so that fuel consumption is reduced by up to 15%.

How does this device work?

Developed for models powered by ethanol, gasoline or a mixture of the two fuels, the economizer was installed in a Hyundai HB20 1.6 16V for mooring. Before that, however, we followed the instructions (in English only) in the user manual.

The product is sold for R$ 62.90 on Mercado Livre, the product does not come with a user manual in Portuguese to help with installation. The packaging itself only describes the information in English.

In practice, simply plug it into the OBD2 socket on the pickups – usually under the steering wheel – place the key in the ignition and turn it to the first level.

After all, does the product work?

We did all this and went to the circuit to do the sample consumption test: the result was 9.8 km/l in the urban cycle and 12.5 km/l on the highway.

After removal, the vehicle returned to the track and repeated the same process. It ended up recording exactly the same numbers. In other words, zero result. Therefore, we can conclude that the product does not work.
