See: How much will the new minimum wage be in 2023

In April this year, the minimum wage estimate for 2023 was R$ 1,294, but high inflation raised the value to R$ 1,310, up from R$ 98.17. Initially, after January, the federal government relies on the INPC Consumer Price Index Estimate) to predict the value of the minimum wage, which was raised from 6.7% to 8.1% by the Economic Policy Secretariat of the Ministry of Economy in this Thursday (19).

If the estimate is confirmed in 2023 and there is no change in the calculation, the minimum wage adjustment will also be greater than that foreseen in the PLDO (Proposed Budgetary Guidelines Law) submitted to the National Congress by the Executive Branch. In the PLDO, the government proposed increasing the minimum wage from R$ 1,212 to R$ 1,294.

But inflation has not stopped, it continues to advance and if the pace remains the same, the salary estimate for next year could change again.

The value, which rises to R$ 1.310, shows that it is again none will give a real gain in relation to inflation.

The minimum wage adjustment will affect the values of government benefits, such as unemployment insurance, PIS/Pasep salary bonus and INSS benefits. This is because its values are based on national soil.

How is the minimum wage calculated?

To calculate the minimum wage, the government takes annual inflation into account. Workers must always maintain their purchasing power, as determined by the Constitution. In other words, for this, the Executive uses the National Consumer Price Index (INPC).

Therefore, the final INPC value for one year is not released until January. The body responsible for reporting inflation is the IBGE (Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics).

During the year, the Ministry of Economy and the Central Bank carry out monthly projections to financially prepare the government to pay the minimum amount.
